About us
German Academic Association for Security Studies
Introduction:
The German Academic Association for Security Studies at universities consists of security policy university groups. We are a group of university students and university employees from all branches of study who are interested in security policy.
The German Academic Association for Security Studies was founded in November 2005 and is a continuation of the Federal Working Group of Army Reserve Students and its work. The mother organization of the German Academic Association for Security Studies is the Association of the reserve of the German Army (VdRBw ? Verband der Reservisten der Deutschen Bundeswehr).
Students from all branches of study, as well as academics and members of the German Army can become members of the organisation.
We stand for the protection of the free democratic order of the Federal Republic of Germany. To ensure the security of the Federal Republic of Germany, we are in favour of the deployment of armed forces. This is why many of our members are committed to the Federal Army reserve next to their academic work.
We are in favour of the integration of the Federal Republic of Germany and its armed forces into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization for reasons of defence of the member states, which are committed to the principles of human rights, freedom and democracy.
We offer security relevant formation programmes at German universities in order to encourage the formal debate on security policy topics, and thereby contribute to the existence and continuation of a well-informed discussion.
Advantages of membership
The membership is free of charge and offers numerous advantages:
· Possibility to participate in the work of the university groups: organisation of lectures, discussions with experts and other students interested in security policy. For reserve soldiers: military support with other students.
- Possibility to participate on the federal level: Participation in the federal working groups on public relations, internet and Science and Security (participation in scientific publications, organisation of symposia) as well as in project groups (organisation of seminars with security policy experts and decision-makers at the federal level).
· A newsletter and invitations to all seminars and events.
Organisation
The university groups make out the core of the Federal Security Policy Association. These groups are independent and receive material and financial support from the Federal Executive Board; the organisation of security policy events is one of their main tasks.
The Federal Assembly consists of the members of the university groups and is the top level organ of the German Academic Association for Security Studies.
The Executive Board is elected by the Federal Assembly. It defines the guidelines for the work at the federal level and is responsible for the planning of events.
In closed conventions, the working groups deal with the main issues at the federal level, e.g. public relations and scientific publication.
The General Secretariat of the Reserve Association in Bonn is responsible for the organisation of the events at the federal level.
